Rite of Spring

This magnificent oak tree used to grace the hills above my town. The first time I saw it was an early spring afternoon and I was drawn to the gorgeous light and shadow patterns and the sprawling character of the tree. Spring in Northern California comes with lush grasses and wildflowers and this place had it all. Unfortunately, developers have chosen to develop the area and in doing so, removed several trees, including this one. I feel honored to have preserved it through my painting. Hope you enjoy.
